This year, I registered for the Komen Race for the Cure because I wanted to take action and be More Than Pink. I want to make an impact in the fight against breast cancer and need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.
Cancer runs in my family and a member of my family. In September 2018, my annual mammogram discovered an abnormality. A few biopsies, ultrasounds, and an MRI confirmed that I had breast cancer on both sides.
After discussing all the possible treatments and factors specific to me, my doctors and I decided that a double mastectomy was the best way for me to be cancer-free and stay cancer-free. The final pathology post-surgery was THEY GOT IT ALL. Yay. But we also learned there was even more cancer that neither the MRI nor ultrasounds caught.
I am very, very lucky and extremely grateful. I take a daily pill to prevent the remaining five breast cells still in my body (I am sure there are more) do not develop cancer. Many women had/have a much harder road to being cancer-free. Many women did not survive the fight. Many women still worry every six months if their “check-up” will still show that they are cancer-free.
I walk for these women currently still fighting and also, so one day, no other woman hears the words “you have breast cancer.”
Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. Funds raised help support breakthrough research and help for the women and men facing breast cancer today who need our support now, as much as ever. Whether it’s emotional support via Komen’s helpline, financial support through Komen’s treatment assistance program, or help navigating their care journey, Komen will be there for them.
In moments like this, your generosity can make a real difference. Together, let’s show breast cancer patients there’s a whole community standing by their side.
Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today?
