My Story
Hi , my name is Barb!
I retired from the Army after 23 years of Active Duty service as Military Police in June 2023. I retired with goals. I wanted to finally be the mother my kids deserve. I was going to finally have that garden and work on my baking skills. I was finally going to finish my Masters degree…
Life had other plans. By October I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Now on top of the stress of retiring and trying to learn to be a civilian for the first time in my adult life, I'm also battling cancer. And the cancer is battling back!
Seriously, Life wasn't a cake walk before, and it definitely is not now. But I have goals and my story isn't ready to end and Neither is so many others. I have the most supportive husband And boys, and friends and family, but there are people out there that need our support! bet's do this for them and for a cure!

If you’re still reading and I hope you are- please instead of donating under me, both of my sons have decided to request donations instead of Birthday presents this year! Jaxson Balcom had his 11th birthday in March and James Richardson will have his 17th birthday in May! Both amazing kids! Also if that isn’t enough, my biggest supporter who is the unsung hero in all of this my husband Johnathon Balcom who is also on the team and the one taking me to my treatments and taking care of me constantly!
This year, I joined the ONE Komen community and registered for the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk. I am dedicated to Komen's ONE mission of ending breast cancer forever, and I need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.
Please sign up to join my team! Team name is "Pink Veterans". You do not need to be a Veteran to be part of the team! It’s for Veterans, Families, Freinds, and anyone that supports Veterans and ending Cancer! We have 30 people in the team so far - will you be next?!
The walk is on June 8,2024 in Saint Louis is 1.7 miles.
This journey has been and is the worst but so many of you have all been there day since day one! Let's keep fighting this together as the great team we are!
In moments like this, your generosity can make a real difference. Together, let's show breast cancer patients there's a whole community standing by their side.
Thank you all and I can’t wait to see you there!
