Dedicating my walk to Team Becky Strong - Blue & Pink United
On January 25, 2024, I heard two words that changed my life forever: breast cancer.
In an instant, life changed. What followed was a journey filled with difficult decisions, appointments, treatments, surgeries, and uncertainty. Through it all, the experience reminded me that resilience is not built alone, it is strengthened by the people who choose to walk beside us.
While breast cancer became part of my story, it has never defined it. What has defined this chapter is the incredible support I’ve received along the way. My family became my foundation. My friends became my strength. And my Walmart and Sam’s Club family—leaders, teammates, business partners, and colleagues —became my circle, reminding me every day that I was never walking this journey alone.
That experience changed me.
It reinforced my belief in the power of compassion, community, and showing up for one another. It also reminded me that behind every breast cancer diagnosis is a person, a family, and a story that deserves hope.
That’s why I support Susan G. Komen.
I believe every person deserves access to lifesaving research, quality care, and a community that stands beside them through every step of their journey. No one faces cancer alone.
If you’re able, I hope you’ll join me by making a donation, joining our team, or simply helping raise awareness. Every dollar, every conversation, and every step brings us closer to a future without breast cancer.
This is my why. This is why I dedicate this year’s More than Pink Walk in honor of Becky Dedman and the many individuals who have shared their journeys with me. Because I know what the power of many can do.
With heartfelt gratitude
Vanessa
