Kind Like Katey started with my sister.
Katey had a way of making people feel loved, seen, and cared for. She was kind—not the big, showy kind of kindness, but the kind that showed up when someone needed her.
Then breast cancer entered our lives.
I watched my sister fight this disease, and in October 2023, we lost her. I never imagined that not long afterward, I would hear the words “you have breast cancer” myself.
Suddenly, I wasn’t just the sister of someone who had breast cancer. I was the patient.
I went through chemotherapy, immunotherapy, a double mastectomy, reconstruction, and everything that comes with trying to put your life back together after cancer turns it upside down.
And now I’m doing something I’ve never done before.
I’m walking.
This is my first Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk, and I created Team Kind Like Katey because I can’t think of a better way to honor my sister, recognize my own journey, and support every person and family who has heard the words that changed ours forever.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 to support breast cancer research and people facing this disease today.
But this team is also about keeping a little piece of Katey moving through the world.
So walk with us. Donate if you can. Share our page. Tell someone about Katey. Do something kind for someone who needs it.
Because that’s what this team stands for:
Do kindness. See kindness. Share kindness.
For Katey. For me. For all of us.
