Every tradition has a beginning.
At 2800 Island Boulevard, ours started simply — with our team wearing pink polos on Fridays throughout October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
It was a small gesture, but one that meant something to us.
Then, last year, four 2800 employees decided to take those pink Fridays one step further. We laced up our sneakers and participated in our first Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk together.
Four people. One team. One morning that left a much bigger impression on us than we expected.
So, of course, we had to do it again.
Only this year, something pretty wonderful happened along the way.
Our little team of four has grown to 11 team members — and counting!
What began with employees has grown into something that truly reflects who we are at 2800: residents and staff coming together, side by side, for something that reaches far beyond our building.
On Saturday, October 17, 2026, Team 2800 will once again participate in the Susan G. Komen Miami/Fort Lauderdale MORE THAN PINK Walk.
We know that behind every pink ribbon is a story.
Some of us walk for someone we love. Some walk in celebration of a survivor. Some walk in memory of someone deeply missed. And some simply walk because they want to help create a future where fewer families ever have to face breast cancer.
Whatever brings each of us to the starting line, we'll walk it together as Team 2800.
Looking back, it's pretty incredible to see how far a simple tradition has traveled.
And perhaps that's the best part of this story:
We're still writing it.
Every person who joins us, supports a walker, makes a donation, or cheers Team 2800 on becomes another part of it.
This October, we're proud to wear our pink.
But we're even prouder to walk together in it.
