This year, I was diagnosed with triple positive metastatic breast cancer that had spread to my bones, liver and lungs. We're all familiar with the pink ribbon that symbolizes breast cancer but not as many are familiar with the phrase "more than pink" or the ribbon that combines pink with green and teal. Research has made great strides in being able to "cure" breast cancer in its early stages but there remains no cure, only lifelong treatment for those of us with metastatic disease.

I completed 6 rounds of chemotherapy and my oncologist had ordered an additional 6. On the very day that I finished the first 6 rounds, the FDA approved a drug for my type of cancer that had previously only been approved for other types of breast cancer. My oncologist came to the infusion center to tell me she was cancelling the additional 6 rounds and starting me on the oral medication.

With all that breast cancer research has accomplished over the years, there is still so much more to be done. We need better treatments for all and a cure for metastatic breast cancer.

I'm not simply raising funds for the Susan G. Komen foundation, I'm working on building up my strength to be able to walk the 1 mile course at the MORE THAN PINK Walk at Six Flags Great Adventure.
