Did you know that there seems to be a rise in breast cancer diagnoses right here in Hancock County?

Over the past year, four of my close friends have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Watching these women navigate surgery, chemotherapy, treatments, and everything that comes with a cancer diagnosis — while still being moms, wives, daughters, friends, and simply trying to live their lives — has been incredibly emotional and, at times, scary.

But through it all, they have shown incredible strength, courage, and resilience. They have truly been an inspiration to me.

Their journeys have reminded me just how important it is to take care of ourselves and encourage the women we love to stay up to date on their mammograms and screenings. It has also made me realize how important it is to come together as a community and support the women who are fighting this disease.

So this year, I’m proud to be walking in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in honor of my friends and all of the women who have been affected by breast cancer.
