My Story
On November 16 2022, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer.
A nurse practitioner called me while I was at work. She said my mom's biopsy tested positive for cancer. And because my mom isn't fluent in English, I had to be the one to tell her she had cancer.
I felt like my whole world just crashed. There was a painful ringing in my ears that wouldn't go away, I couldn't breathe properly, my hands wouldn't stop shaking, and I couldn't stop crying.
2022-2023 was the worst year of our lives. It was emotional and devastating and I still cry when I think about everything my mom went through during that time.
In the beginning of the year, my mom lost her father.
Later in the year she was diagnosed with cancer.
And just days after her final chemo appointment, someone threw a brick through our living room window in the middle of the night, sending her into a panic when she was finally just starting to feel like herself again.
But despite everything, she was still strong.
She had surgery twice, she finished months of chemo and months of radiation.
Thousands of women get diagnosed with breast cancer every year, and unfortunately thousands die from breast cancer each year too.
Charities like Susan G Komen save lives. They advocate for access to care, provide all kinds of support for patients through education and financial help as well as investing in furthering breast cancer research.
This September marks 3 years of my mom being cancer free.
I'm raising donations for the
Komen Northeast Ohio More Than Pink Walk happening September 26th.
And for my birthday this month, I would love if you could donate, and if you can't donate, please consider attending the walk!
