On March 2, 2026, my life changed forever.

What began as a routine mammogram-my fourth one-turned into something I never expected. I had no lump, no warning signs, and felt completely fine. Just two days after my mammogram, I received a call asking me to come back for an ultrasound. After the ultrasound, I was told I needed a biopsy. Then came the words no one ever wants to hear: Stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.

One of the hardest parts wasn't hearing the diagnosis-it was figuring out how to tell my family. My greatest concern was my daughter, who was finishing her sophomore year of college. I was determined not to let my diagnosis interrupt her dreams or distract her from finishing the school year strong. As a mom, I felt it was my job to protect her, so I waited until she came home from college before I told her. Once she was home, I could finally breathe. It broke my heart to share the news, but she understood and became one of my greatest sources of strength.

On April 8, I underwent a lumpectomy, followed by 19 rounds of radiation. Through every doctor's appointment, every treatment, and every moment of uncertainty, God carried me. He gave me the strength, peace, and courage to keep moving forward, and for that I am forever grateful.

Today, I stand here filled with gratitude. This is my first Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk, and participating means more to me than words can express. It is a celebration of life, faith, hope, and the importance of early detection. If not for a routine mammogram, my cancer may not have been found as early as it was.
