My Story
The beginning of a new year. I didn't make any New Year's resolutions, because I typically have a hard time following through. I did, however, decide to go to my annual mammogram appt. January 2 at 1 pm. 20 minutes after I left, I got a call. They called to tell me that there were some abnormalities and scheduled a breast ultrasound on January 8th. Needless to say, I was worried and concerned. January 8th came, and the ultrasound confirmed the abnormality. The tech immediately recommended a biopsy and asked if I had time. Of course, I had time. I was told that I would know something in 3-5 business days. Even though the nurse and the doctor were both fabulous, I could tell that they had seen this before. The nurse pointed out a dimple on my breast that I was unaware of.
Fast forward to Monday, January 12. I got a notification that I had new results in my patient portal. At this point, I was in the school pick-up line. Do I look or do I wait? Surely someone will call me from my doctor’s office. I waited until the end of the day, and then I looked. I couldn’t wait any longer. There were a lot of medical terms that I honestly just looked up on Google. From what I could tell, I had cancer. I don’t know what type or how much. But I was pretty sure it was the Big C. I finally got a call back from the doctor at the end of the day. He again confirms what I already knew. So now the fight begins.
So this year, I joined the Komen community and registered for the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk. I am dedicated to Komen's mission of ending breast cancer forever, and I need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.
