My Story
My 10-Year Story
As I prepare for the Susan G. Komen event on 5/30, I am filled with gratitude as I acknowledge 10 years since completing cancer treatment. This milestone is not mine alone. It belongs to the family, friends, and community who stood beside me through every step of the journey.
I am deeply thankful for the calls, texts, visits, meals, and gifts that reminded me I was not alone. Your kindness carried me through some of the hardest days. I also deeply appreciated the support of many organizations that provided a wig, head coverings, and makeup sessions, as well as Cooper’s chair massage and reflexology, which brought comfort and care when I needed it most.
I was also blessed to participate for years in the Kellys’ Writer’s Group, a gift I will always cherish. It gave me the opportunity to appreciate the art of writing and to witness the incredible voices of the participants. I am especially grateful to Deb, the English professor at Penn, whose prompts inspired us and helped us share meaningful readings and reflections.
Thank you to everyone who shared in my journey. Your love, support, and encouragement helped carry me to this 10-year milestone, and I will always be grateful.
