My Story
It was 1984. My mom was 36 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. 36. She had 3 children between the ages of 8 and 11. She went into remission for 5 years and then her cancer, diagnosed as metastatic breast cancer, came back with a vengeance. She died in 1992. I was 16. I read stories like the above, and I’m overwhelmed with emotion for this brave woman’s children. I know that loss. I dealt with that loss. It took me at least 12 years to fully comprehend the impact of that loss.
And this is why I fundraise for Komen every year. This is why my family is amongst the top fundraising teams every year for the past 5 years. Stories like this are just not acceptable to me. We must fight for a cure and for more effective treatment. Children should not lose their parents to this horrendous disease.
Any amount is appreciated. Help us get to $10,000. Please.
Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. Funds raised help support breakthrough research and provide assistance to those facing breast cancer today who need our support. Whether it’s emotional support via Komen’s helpline, financial support through Komen’s financial assistance program, or navigation services to break down barriers to care, Komen will be there for them.
