It’s been twenty years since my cousins were first diagnosed with breast cancer. In their honor, and with the hope of making a meaningful difference, I’ve participated in nearly as many Susan G. Komen walks. For years, I stood proudly on the sidelines, offering love and support to my friends, family, and future generations, believing that my role was to uplift those in the fight.

But on July 10, 2024, everything changed. I heard the words no one ever wants to hear: “It’s malignant.” In that moment, I stepped off the sidelines and into the fight myself.

Though my breast cancer was caught early and I am now cancer-free, I carry with me a deep awareness that not everyone is as fortunate. I know that early detection, compassionate and skilled doctors, and a powerful support system, including the Susan G. Komen team and the unwavering love of the best family in the world, made all the difference in my journey.

I feel incredibly blessed. And with that blessing comes a responsibility: to share my story, to raise awareness, and to help ensure that others have the chance at an outcome like mine. I walk forward with gratitude, surrounded by the strength of those who came before me, and fueled by the hope that together, we can create a future free from breast cancer.
