I?m excited to share that I?ve started a team for the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk because I am committed to creating a world without breast cancer! I am proud to lead my team, as this cause is very personal to me.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer on September 11, 2024. Fortunately, due to my proactive approach in getting annual mammograms, my cancer was detected early. I emphasize the importance of regular screenings; they can truly save lives. Ladies, GET YOUR MAMMOGRAMS!!!
Following my diagnosis, I received support from Texas Oncology, where my oncologist recommended genetic counseling, and I learned that I carry the CHEK2 gene mutation. After discussing my options, I opted for a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction. Thankfully, early detection meant I did not need chemotherapy or radiation, but I recognize that many others face much greater challenges.
As a member of this team, we are each playing a part in helping Susan G. KomenŽ in their mission to end breast cancer forever.
The money our team raises will fund research to discover more effective treatments, as well as vital patient support to help connect people with things like breast cancer education & information, emotional support, patient navigation, financial assistance and so much more.
Ending breast cancer needs all of us. United together, we can support those who need help today, while fearlessly searching for tomorrow's cures.
