Our Story

Welcome to our Komen More Than Pink Walk team page for Team Mammo-Grammies. Our team Captain is Cathy Robins Ramos. Cathy is a two-time breast cancer survivor. While we have come a long way in preventative, research, and survivor rate, we still have a long way to go!  I am honored to be a part of the Patient Advocacy Committee with Susan G. Komen this year.  In February 2025, members of the Statewide Committee gathered at the Texas Capital lobbying for support for two bills.  Supplemental Breast Imagining reducing the out-of-pocket burden and for Genetic Testing for high-risk patients eliminating the cost barrier.  While Senate Bill 1747 died in committee prior to a vote, we thank Sen. Carol Alvarado, Sen. Molly Cook, and Sen. Sarah Eckhardt for their sponsorship.  Senate Bill 1084 passed 6/20/2025 going into effect 9/1/2025 supporting patients with mammography report identifying a patient with high dense breast tissue for additional diagnostic testing.  The Advocacy priorities are Accelerating Research, Alleviating Patient Burden and Ensuring all patients have equal access to affordable, high-quality care.  In 2025 an estimated 313,510 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 42,680 patients are estimated to die from breast cancer in 2025. The 5-year survival rate is 91% for all types of breast cancer and the 5-year survival rate for localized stage breast cancer is 99%.

In 2025 Team Mammo-Grammies raised more than $28,700.00, making our team the top fundraiser in Austin.  Our team was so proud to be able to make a positive  impact, assisting Susan G. Komen to be able to continue their work in the fight to end breast cancer.  The work and impact in 2025 will only continue with donor assistance and generosity.

Cathy was first diagnosed in 2004 followed by 6 biopsies, 5 years of Tamoxifen.  Cathy was cancer free until April 1, 2016, when she received pathology results diagnosing an estrogen based invasive breast cancer. Working with oncology team, surgery, oncotype pathology, updated genetic testing with a Bard1 positive genetic disorder, treatment plans were established.  July 20, 2016, Cathy rang the  bell after radiation treatments completed with continued treatment taking Anastrozole.  Texas Oncology continues to confirm that Cathy remains cancer free, and she is now a nine-year survivor & thriver after surgery February 2024.  Cathy's mother, Janet Curry, is a 54-year survivor from a 1971 diagnosis celebrating her 92nd birthday May 2025 and remains a shining example to our family and friends.

Team Mammo-Grammies is made up of our family. Cathy’s family continues to provide the support required to win the battle against breast cancer. Husband Al a true partner and love of life; children Stephanie, Garrett and Macee have been so supportive and are the lights of life for their mom; Garrett's wife, Cristina, and Stephanie's husband Tony along with grandchildren Reid, Juliana, Elizabeth, Isabella, Abigail ,and Jaxson keep smiles and love flowing. Through it all, Cathy could not have survived without her family and through God's continued grace and guidance, we stand together.

Cathy is the owner of Robins Oil & Gas Research. Friends and clients continue to be supportive ,, generous donors to Susan G. Komen, and continued to  encourage and support Cathy.  Thank you!

This year our team’s name continues to remain the same to encourage women to have regular Mammograms and start early!  Be proactive and take charge in early detection and preventative measures.  I hope I can count on your support with every dollar helping us reach our $25,000 goal for  October 26, 2025, More Than Pink Walk .  Thank you for your support in fighting together to never face this journey alone.
