Mom Surviving 33 years

My Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when I graduated high school.

I felt like I had no chance at life if she did not have a chance at life, so my world stopped and I focused on her as she removed both breasts & received chemotherapy.  We would rather have her alive without breasts than dead with breasts so she had her body chopped up & removed but in all of that she found her identity as a woman, a mother, and a wife.  Her friends and neighbors saw her courage and her Church members witnessed healing & strength in action!  We must fight with all of our power to overcome darkness.  My Mom was lucky, or blessed, whichever you prefer.  I am grateful I still have years to learn from her and to love her in gratitude for giving me life as a mother.

In 1992, there was not much to know or do about breast cancer but The University of Arizona in Tucson AZ recommended that she remove both breasts and lymph nodes.  After chemo six months, she was able to endure reconstructive surgery.  Never was a time where she felt more like a piece of meat!  But, the survival and the healing and the recovery from cancer itself surely taught us all that we are full of spirit and life!

Susan G Komen helped us along the way to stay focused in community and encouraged in health. The annual walk in AZ & TX inspired us and made us accountable to say what we want to cancer and speak up for ourselves as much more than that!

This year, I joined the Komen community and registered for the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk. I am dedicated to Komen's mission of ending breast cancer forever, and I need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.
