Why I Walk
My Why ? Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk
I walk because this fight is personal.
As a Black woman, I know how breast cancer disproportionately impacts our community. Too often, we hear about loved ones being diagnosed late, facing limited access to care, or fighting silently because they don?t have the support they need. I refuse to let silence or fear win.
I also walk because of my own health journey. Living with a rare kidney disease, anemia, and other health challenges has taught me what it means to keep fighting even when you feel tired, broken, or overlooked. My journey hasn?t been easy, but it has given me a deeper compassion and a stronger voice for others who feel unseen.
This is more than just a walk for me?it?s about standing up for women?s health, raising awareness, and pushing for equity in care and resources. It?s about honoring the women we?ve lost, celebrating the survivors, and supporting the fighters who are still in the trenches right now.
When I step out with the Komen community, I walk with hope. Hope that research will save lives. Hope that more women of color will get the screenings, treatment, and advocacy they deserve. Hope that our daughters, nieces, and sisters will inherit a world where breast cancer no longer steals futures.
I?m walking for every woman who?s been told she isn?t strong enough?because she is. I?m walking for every family who has carried the weight of this disease. And I?m walking for myself, because my story reminds me daily that healing, faith, and resilience are worth fighting for.
Together, we are MORE THAN PINK.
