My Story: In April 2021 I felt a sharp stabbing pain in my left breast, when it hit me I grabbed my breast. My co worker Tausha asked what was wrong. I told her about the pain I just experienced. She told me the same thing had happened to her grandma and it ended up being cancer. I immediately went to my provider to order diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. April 28, 2021 the tech came back in with the radiologist., as a nurse I knew that couldn’t be good. He dropped the C word on me and just started crying. I told him I can’t die as I am the only parent left for my kids. Their dad had passed away in 2016. After the tests I had to return to work with tears in my eyes. My co workers were supportive. June 22, 2021 o had bilateral mastectomy, I found out I had the BRCA 2 gene. After multiple surgeries and set backs I have been cancer free since 2021. I credit all the good people that rallied around me for never giving up.
