Arthur's Story
It was my oldest sister, she's like my second mom; "son, little brother, I was just told that I have breast cancer." I didn't have the words, the wind was knocked out of my sails. You see, I cried in secret; I was gonna be strong for her. It was a rough ordeal for her but she made it through.
My good friend and fellow artist, Ashling Cole was dealing with breast cancer and is going through a tough time with this as well. We had a conversation about it and I hadn't processed all of this yet and received a call from my second oldest sister with the news that she had breast cancer. What in the world is going on here! This sister had already been going through some non-cancer related sickness. We lost her in surgery.
I kept hearing about more women being diagnosed with breast cancer. Then a phone call from my daughter, "Daddy my mother has breast cancer and I don't know what to do." Damn, what the hell, now my daughter and granchildren are effected directly this terrible disease! I have to tell you, they all have beat this disease thank God; I must do more to help!
Millions of dollars have been raised to help with the research for a cure but we haven't found that ingredient to stop it. All I can do is continue to help the research go forward and continue to help inform women like my granddaughter and all women about the need to have a mammogram. I am urging everyone including all of my fellow drummer/percussionist friends, some of whom have their own stories, to contribute to this cause.
