Steps of Compassion: Bodhi Tree Walks for a Cure
Join Me in Helping to End Breast Cancer Inequities in Hawai'i
I’m excited to share that I’ve started a team—Bodhi Tree—for the Susan G. Komen Hawai‘i MORE THAN PINK Walk, happening Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Kapiolani Park. This event is part of the nation’s largest breast cancer fundraising series, with more than 100,000 participants nationwide. Since 2018, walkers have raised over $60 million to help end breast cancer.
Here in Hawai‘i, more than 3,000 participants raised nearly $200,000 last year, helping 566 individuals across all five counties access essential breast health resources each week. In addition, 513 local advocates helped advance progress in breast cancer policy and care.
This year, I’ve set a personal fundraising goal of $1,000 by July 31, and I’d be honored to have your support. You can join the Bodhi Tree team—or start your own—and help us reach even more lives.
Every dollar raised fuels vital patient support services for wahine across our islands—connecting them to breast cancer education, emotional support, patient navigation, financial assistance, and more. Your gift means more than a donation—it brings hope.
For over 40 years, Susan G. Komen has transformed breast cancer advocacy, expanded access to care, and mobilized communities. But the fight isn’t over. We still need better prevention, earlier detection, more effective treatments, and most importantly, health equity in Hawai‘i.
Why Your Support Matters:
- Nearly 44,000 lives are lost to breast cancer each year in the U.S.
- Hawai‘i ranks 5th in the nation for breast cancer incidence, with 145.8 new cases per 100,000 annually.
- As of June 2025, Civil Beat reported Micronesian women in Hawai‘i face the steepest disparities—only 26% had ever received a mammogram (CDC, 2012), with progress still lagging.
- Native Hawaiian women experience the highest rates of incidence and mortality in the state and often face more aggressive diagnoses like inflammatory breast cancer.
- Filipino, Japanese, and other Pacific Islander women continue to see rising rates and inequities in access to care.
How You Can Help:

- Start your own team with friends, family, or colleagues
- Make a donation—every contribution makes a difference
Together, we can build a future where everyone—regardless of race, geography, or income—has a fighting chance.
