Hello everyone, Gina here! This is my first official Breast Cancer Walk and I am so excited! A little about my story and why I am dedicated to raise awareness for such a good cause.
At the age of 34, I was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer, Oct 7, 2024 to be technical. This date will forever be engrained into my mind as my life changed forever. I never gave myself self breast exams because everything feels the same. Something told me one night to check as I had been feeling sick and really off. Fast forward to the first hospital missing this, my OB ordered an urgent mammo and ultrasound. I knew when I was there that this was exactly what I thought it was and it was from that moment I was determined to fight. I had to fight as there was no other option and because I was determined to be here for my boys and all of their exciting milestones.
From Oct 2024 to June 2025 I completed a lot of things: port placement, all the imaging and labs you could think of, red devil chemo (8 cycles), a hospitalization due to neutropenia, a double mastectomy April 1 due to having the BRCA2 gene, a month of radiation and now maintenance meds.
April 7 will be the second date engrained into my brain as I got the official word I was cancer free!
With that being said:
