My Journey
Fast forward to 2024:
My journey started when I went for my annual mammogram. An ultrasound and two biopsies later I was diagnosed with DCIS (cancer) in my left breast and LCIS (precancer) in my right. My options were: two lumpectomies or bilateral mastectomy. After doing my own research I came to the decision that was best for me. For me the most important part of my decision making was to chose the option that gave me the best chances of removing all the cancer with the least amount of damage to my body. This is why I opted for a bilateral mastectomy. Yes, this option was drastic, but my odds of having to go through radiation treatments and hormone blockers was very low. After ALOT of soul searching and time alone to make the best decision for me my decision was made. May 20, 2024 I under went the surgery for bilateral mastectomy. On May 24 I was giving the first sign of hope since my journey started. All cancer was successfully removed with clear margins. No further treatment was needed with the exception of post surgery PT (physical therapy). Little did I know the surgery was the easy part. The mental toll is much harder, but with all my supporters I am getting through it. With each day that passes I am getting stronger.
I will be participating in my first ever More Than Pink Walk for my Mom, myself, and all the resilient strong woman affected by breast cancer. Please consider supporting me and my team " Mendi's Minions " as we walk to raise funds and bring hope to those who need it.
Note: Please message me with any questions or if you feel more comfortable making the donation to me.
