My Story
In June 2024, I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and invasive ductal carcinoma. Being shocked was an understatement. This had to be a mistake. My family encouraged me, and my sister flew in from Texas to be with me for my doctor’s appointment which would officially confirm my diagnosis. When we walked out, I realized this was real. 100% real. Not a mistake, not anyone else. This was me.
My surgery was proceeded by radiation treatment. Moving forward, I will be under care for five years (four now) with medication, semi-annual diagnostic mammos and infusions.
My recovery happened because of the doctors, nurses, technicians, and years of research. It was the advancements that played a key role in my diagnosis and treatment along with the skilled oncology team.
If nothing else, please spread awareness on the importance of screening. Breast cancer is a human condition which can affect anyone. Please remember, you may have symptoms, but as I discovered, you may not.
