My Story
In 2023 a lump in my breast that my doctor and I had thought was a cyst changed. I made an appointment to see my doctor who sent me for my first mammogram. Turns out my cyst wasn’t a cyst at all, but a suspicious lump. One painful biopsy later I learned that I had breast cancer. Thankfully I was with my sister when I found out (the day before Thanksgiving). By mid December, I was having a lumpectomy and by February 2024, I was in for four weeks of radiation therapy. About a month after the radiation was over I started tamoxifen because my cancer feeds off of estrogen and I haven’t gone through menopause yet. A week later I stopped the Tamoxifen after nearly dying. My oncologist referred me to see a specialist at the Fred Hutch Cancer research center. The specialist recommended Lupron injections to put my ovaries to sleep, with exemestene taken daily as an estrogen inhibitor and semi annual bone infusions since I am in forced menopause. So here I am, cherishing each day and wanting to help other people avoid my same fate.
This year I am joining with the Susan G. Komen foundation to help raise funds for breast cancer research. Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer.
