My Story
In 2005, in the middle of a panic attack where I realized that I was the same age as my mother when she detected a lump in her breast, my husband suggested that I do something positive. So I hesitatingly signed up for my first Seattle 3Day, on the assumption that I would not be able to raise enough funds to actually be able to walk. Despite that, I trained, and not only beat my fundraising goal, but finished my first 60 miles in three days. It was the start of what is now a two-decade adventure.
I have met many friends on 3Day, and I've lost some to breast cancer. I've had many supporters, and I lost two of my most dedicated supporters this past year to other cancers, other diseases. But they passionately believed that fighting for a cure was worth their time and effort, even when they work sick, and so I will walk again this year -- even if it isn't 60 miles -- to continue their challenge.
The Komen foundation supports research to find a cure, and victims of breast cancer who are waiting for that cure by providing funds for mammograms, counseling, treatment, and recovery.
