A few years ago I volunteered for the Susan G. Komen Walk in memory of my mother, Dorothy, who passed away from breast cancer in 1984. In May of 2024 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After the shock and scare of the diagnosis, I kept saying to myself, it's small, it's stage 1. In July I had a lumpectomy, and they realized it was bigger and more aggressive than originally thought. After my onca test was lost or not sent twice I was starting to panic that this was not going to end well. We decided that while waiting another month for the test to start radiation, which was no joke. Well the test came back and chemotherapy was not needed. I started endocrine therapy that I will be continuing for the next 4 to 10 years. Although it hasn't been easy, I am still very blessed and grateful that it could of been worse. This year, I joined the Komen community and registered for the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk for all of the women like me and all of the others that have had it much harder (my sister) and those who have not survived (my dear mother).
