My Story
I have breast cancer.
Those that know me, understand that I am very private and fiercely independent. I feel it is important to share my story, as early detection is incredibly important to combat this disease.
In April 2022, I went to my scheduled mammogram, an annual and bi-annual occurrence over the past two decades. I felt a bit virtuous as I headed there, being able to 'check this appointment off the list’. That was not the case on this day, and my whole world changed instantly. A week later, I had a biopsy. Less than 24 hours later, the results came into my MyChart - I had cancer.
Within the hour, my doctor's office called and was very supportive as I processed and sobbed through the news. Next followed a roller coaster of emotions and medical appointments, including an MRI and consultations with surgeons, geneticists, oncologists, social workers, and nurse navigators.
I had a lumpectomy in July. Two months later, I had radiation.
During my radiation treatments, I blasted Pitbull. Mr. Worldwide has always brought me joy, and a dance party in my heart, no matter the circumstances.
This took a village to guide and support me through.

I’m especially grateful for my family and friends. My medical team. My workplace.
The organizations. The ones dedicated to breast cancer patients. The ones dedicate to research like the Susan G. Komen foundation.
And I’m especially grateful I showed up to my appointment on April 21 at 8AM. I often wonder what would be if I hadn’t.
People put off a mammogram for many reasons. I am here to urge you TO TAKE THE TIME. If this post can affect one or more people to make that mammogram appointment and show up for it as planned (or any self-care that’s being consistently postponed), it will be worth sharing my story. Self-care is a priority no matter what time of the year.
This year, I joined the Komen community and registered for the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk. I am dedicated to Komen's mission of ending breast cancer forever, and I need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.

Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. Funds raised help support breakthrough research and provide assistance to those facing breast cancer today who need our support. Whether it’s emotional support via Komen’s helpline, financial support through Komen’s financial assistance program, or navigation services to break down barriers to care, Komen will be there for them.
Ending breast cancer needs all of us, and your generosity can make a real difference. Together, let’s show breast cancer patients there’s a whole community standing by their side.
Will you please join me in this fight by making your donation today?
