My Story
Finding a cure for breast cancer is a very personal cause for me. My mother, Maryanne Walker, was diagnosed with breast cancer on September 11, 2001. She had no family history of cancer and had just gotten a clean mammogram report earlier that year. She had several rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and even had a mastectomy before going into remission for a time, but when it came back, it came back with a vengeance and metathesized to several locations in her body. It progressed very quickly and she went home to be with the Lord on April 21, 2005. She wasn't scared, but we were, seeing someone you love suffer is agonizing and although we were all relieved that she wasn't in pain anymore, we grieved deeply because she was the foundation of this family. There has been a hole in our lives as her children and grandchildren have experienced graduations, weddings, births of children of their own and many other milestones. My hope is that one day no one will ever lose their mom, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, in this way.
