My Story
This chapter of my story began 273 days before my profile picture was taken. On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, I presented for my annual screening mammogram. I was not experiencing any pain or discomfort. I was fine or so I thought. Wednesday morning, I received a call advising me I needed to report to the hospital for additional testing. An ultrasound was performed which confirmed areas of concern. A biopsy was performed of an area in my lymph nodes and my right breast. On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, my 47th birthday, I met with the physician to receive the results of that biopsy. And on that day, my 47th birthday, my life as I knew it was forever changed. My journey began as a Stage 2 Triple Negative Invasive Ductal Carcinoma warrior. I would go on to receive compassionate care and treatment at Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute on the campus of Johnston-Willis Hospital. My oncology team was uplifting and encouraging throughout this journey. Dr. Voelzke, Bonnie Johnson, ANP, my nurses - Kathryn and Kenna, and my chemo nurses were true angels on Earth. The same thing goes for my radiation team from Daija greeting me daily with a smile to my lovely nurse singing once I stepped into the radiation room. Dr. Randolph II, who I referred to as Baby Randolph was also caring and charismatic. In conjunction to these individuals, I was blessed to have the expertise of one of the top surgeons, Dr. Ruth Felsen. This was what felt like a long and lonely journey. But in fact, it was not. This was not just MY journey but the journey of My Village. I didn't understand this in the midst of. Now that I have completed my treatments and my cancer is in remission, I want to give back to my community.
This year, I joined the Komen community and registered for the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk. I am dedicated to Komen's mission of ending breast cancer forever, and I need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.
