My Breast Cancer Journey — And Why I’m Walking
In 2023, I was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS). The news was devastating. My first thought was how this diagnosis would shape my life from that moment forward.
At Atlanta Breast Care, Dr. Bowman was incredibly thorough. Despite several benign test results, I continued experiencing nipple bleeding. In September 2023, Dr. Bowman performed surgery to address the issue, and behind the bleeding, they discovered cancer.
I
was given a choice: a lumpectomy or a bilateral mastectomy. I chose the mastectomy, fearing that if I didn’t, the cancer might return. By November, what had started as the size of a peanut had grown to the size of an egg. That second surgery likely saved my life.
Since then, I’ve faced more surgeries and difficult complications. In July 2024, I underwent a third surgery and am still managing those challenges today. My fourth surgery is scheduled for November 2025 to correct complications on my right side and place a temporary implant on the left.
In 2026, I’ll undergo my final procedure to complete this long journey.
Through it all, Susan G. Komen was an incredible resource. They offered compassion, guidance, and support when I needed it most.
On October 25, 2025, I’ll be walking for myself and every person touched by breast cancer — those fighting, those surviving, and those we’ve lost. My goal is to raise $1,000, and I believe we can surpass it.
I invite you to walk with me, donate, and stand with all those affected by breast cancer. Together, we move forward. Together, we fight.
Join me. Donate. Walk. Celebrate the movement.
