I walk & give because of her. My sister's story...in her own words!
It was April 2022 when my life was upended by a breast cancer diagnosis. What followed was a double mastectomy, six rounds of chemotherapy, and one year of HER2+ antibody drug infusions. On July 3, 2023, I gratefully "rang the bell" signifying the end of my active treatment, and the beginning of my life as a breast cancer survivor.
Prior to breast cancer, my life's journey had included more than a few serious health issues. However, going through breast cancer treatment, was both emotionally and physically the hardest health challenge that I have ever had to face. After becoming a survivor, I felt compelled to find a way to help others who would find themselves in a similar fight.
I was not able to work during treatment, and it was during this time that I received a financial assistance grant from the Susan G. Komen organization. It was a lifeline for me. Financial assistance grants are just one of the many ways Komen supports breast cancer patients. The money raised at the 2025 Georgia More Than Pink Walk will fund research to discover more effective treatments and vital patient supports services including connecting people to breast cancer education and information, emotional support, patient navigation, and financial assistance.
For the third year, I along with my team, Hooters' Hope is back to raise money to support breast cancer warriors. Last year, we joyfully raised $24,064.02! This year we a reaching even higher. Please join us by making a donation, and take it from me, your support truly makes a difference in the lives of those fighting breast cancer.
In 2025, the money that our team, Hooters' Hope, raises will fund research to discover more effective treatments. In addition, it will fund vital patient support services, including connecting people to breast cancer education and information, emotional support, patient navigation, and financial assistance. If there was ever a time when we, the greater breast cancer community, need to continue to rise up and support current breast cancer warriors, it is now!
