Hi my name is Kendra and I want to tell you a little about myself and why this walk is so important to me. I’m a 42 year old daughter, wife and mother to 5 amazing boys. 2 years ago I felt a lump in my right breast and that was the start of my mammograms. I will never forget sitting in that room scared nervous not knowing what to expect. As I watched an elderly lady with tears in her eyes ring the bell she had finally been cured. I was happy for her I didn’t know her but wanted to Hug her. 45 minutes later having just finished my first mammogram I was asked to go down the hall for an ultrasound. After some small talk with the technician I was told I needed the Dr. who proceeded to look further. My left breast showed a mass ( we’ve kept an eye on it ) and will continue to. Though no other testing has been done besides every 6 months of mammograms and now yearly testing I feel finding a cure for Breast Cancer so important as it has affected those around me so much. My amazing strong and brave mother in law has battled this at least 3 separate times. Countless appointments traveling and treatments she has shown me the definition of a warrior inside and out. She never quits she has always kept the fight. My son’s grandmother who many years ago had one of her breasts removed due to aggressive breast cancer. What I love about her the most is she doesn’t hide the fact she’s battled this disease and lost one of her lady bits. She embraces it each and every day. She is a warrior. I have many family and friends that have gone through and still are battling this day in and day out with love and support from family and friends. They see the Pink light of hope in the future that one day they too can ring that bell and call themselves A Survivor, but no matter what each night these women are WARRIORS battling one hell of a fight. I hope someday soon we can find a cure for breast cancer and I’m so grateful for the many doctors and nurses who treat each patient with love and support during probably some of the hardest days.
This year, I joined the Komen community and registered for the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk. I am dedicated to Komen's mission of ending breast cancer forever, and I need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.
Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. Funds raised help support breakthrough research and provide assistance to those facing breast cancer today who need our support. Whether it’s emotional support via Komen’s helpline, financial support through Komen’s financial assistance program, or navigation services to break down barriers to care, Komen will be there for them.
Ending breast cancer needs all of us, and your generosity can make a real difference. Together, let’s show breast cancer patients there’s a whole community standing by their side.
