Susan's Journey

Over two and a half years ago, life took an unexpected turn with a diagnosis: Breast Cancer

And while I know I?m one in a million (thanks Mom!), it turns out I?m one in a million in a way I never wanted to be. I have been diagnosed with Pleomorphic Lobular Invasive Carcinoma, a Breast Cancer type that less than 1% of women ever face. My world became quite uncertain: few answers, little research, and ?here?s hoping? at every doctor?s visit. There was no roadmap for treatment, only persistent faith and determination to navigate the unknown.

Through multiple surgeries, countless weeks of radiation, and the slow grind of ongoing chemotherapy (yep, chemo for 2 years for this girl!), I have found strength in places I never expected. While I am THRILLED there is no evidence of disease, the fear of recurrence is present in every moment of every day. Chronic pain and physical limitations result in simple tasks demanding more effort; exhaustion and discomfort never really fade. My ?new? body often feels unrecognizable, reminding me moment by moment of the cost of survival. Yet, within this struggle, resilience grows. I?ve learned to cherish small victories: a *small* hike despite the aches, laughter with loved ones, traveling and experiencing new cultures, or moments of quiet gratitude.

This year, I will be walking to raise money for vital research?helping pave the way for answers that did not exist for me, and lighting the path for those who will come after. I walk not to ask for donations, but to share my story?for anyone who faces uncertainty or fears recurrence, for those living with invisible battles, and for everyone carrying burdens out of sight.

My body has changed, but my spirit is strong. Every step I take is both a challenge and a triumph; my life may look different, but it is shaped now by courage and perseverance. If my story helps even one person feel less alone, then this struggle has purpose?and hope, once again, leads the way.

Also - ladies: CHECK YOUR BREASTS! It is after all Breast Cancer Awareness month!!
