My Story
You know, a while back, I ran in the Race for the Cure for several years in Raleigh because I worked for a company that sponsored the event. I ran because I love to run and had a couple family members who had cancer, not breast cancer, but still...
I always got teary when seeing the signs people wore on their shirts in memory of loved ones, and the way the community rallied together and played music from their driveways as people ran by, and also just the encouragement as families watched from their yards and rooted for the runners. It was an emotional and amazing event.
Now, years later, I’m a breast cancer survivor. No one ever really thinks it’ll happen to them, right? This event means more to me now, obviously. The thing is, I created a team for this event because I know way too many friends (in the double digits) who have since become survivors like me. It’s unfortunate to know so many people who have had breast cancer, just in my little corner of the world. When I suggested to these friends to join me in this walk, they urged me to create the team…see, we all play tennis together and that’s the reason for the group name “Surviving the Match’.
I’m really looking forward to the MORE THAN PINK Walk.
