My Story
My name is Elizabeth Montgomery and in March of 2024 my mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Her diagnosis was the start of the hardest year me and my family had to face. Dealing with Stage 3 cancer was tough on my mom, but my mom was tougher. Whether it was a round of chemo or radiation treatment, my mom pushed through it all and demonstrated the true meaning of fearlessness.
During her entire journey with breast cancer, my mom posted on social media to inform friends and family on her progress. She shared the good and the bad to give an insight on what dealing with cancer was really like and all of our loved ones followed her journey closely by supporting her during the difficult times and celebrating any victory with her that came along.
On October 26th, just 9 days after her double mastectomy surgery, my mom alongside our family and friends participated in the 2024 Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk. That Saturday morning was well spent celebrating the fundraising efforts of several people and teams that shared a common goal of finding a cure for breast cancer. After battling cancer for the past several months, walking alongside other breast cancer patients helped my mom feel not alone. After being in a state of constant anxiety over my mom’s health for the past several months, walking alongside other family members of cancer patients helped me feel not alone which is what made the walk so special to me, my mom, and my family.
I am happy to say that my mom is now cancer free thanks to the effective treatments and circumstances that were able to get her to where she is today. I am so grateful that her fight with breast cancer has ended, but I know that there are millions who are still fighting. My connection to breast cancer and my experience at the walk has made me want to continue what I hope to be a lifetime involvement in finding a cure to end breast cancer.
This year I am forming a team of high school students who are also passionate about Komen’s mission to end breast cancer. Our goal is to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research that will prevent and cure cancer. I believe that our group of passionate teenagers will be able to grow our awareness of this disease, advocate for the cause, and raise money to fund the Komen mission.
Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts. Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. Funds raised help support breakthrough research and provide assistance to those facing breast cancer today who need our support. Whether it’s emotional support via Komen’s helpline, financial support through Komen’s financial assistance program, or navigation services to break down barriers to care, Komen will be there for them.
Ending breast cancer needs all of us, and your generosity can make a real difference. Together, let’s show breast cancer patients there’s a whole community standing by their side.
Will you please join me in this fight by making your donation today?
