My Story: Why I Walk
I?ve been participating in these walks for as long as I can remember. For years, my family walked in honor of my mom, Darla?a two-time breast cancer survivor. When she was diagnosed a third time in 2016, this time with metastatic breast cancer, I never imagined that one day I would be walking in her memory.
If you knew my mom, you knew her bright light. She had a deep appreciation for life?s big moments, but also for the smallest sparkles of joy. Her laugh was contagious (and booming, lol). You could truly hear it from miles away. Through it all, she always kept such a positive outlook. She believed her cancer would never define her or control her destiny. And she was right. While cancer took her physical body from us, her spirit continues to shine, reminding me daily that her destiny is?and always will be?so much bigger than cancer.
She would want us to keep walking, to keep raising funds, and to keep pushing forward toward a future without breast cancer.
I hope you?ll consider making a donation today in memory of my mom and in honor of her everlasting legacy.
Your support brings us one step closer to a world without breast cancer. Funds raised fuel breakthrough research and provide real-time assistance to those facing breast cancer today?whether it?s emotional support through Komen?s helpline, financial assistance, or navigation services that help break down barriers to care. Komen is there for them, and with your support, we can be too.
Please consider supporting and even joining our team. Together, we can honor my mom?s spirit and help end breast cancer once and for all.
