My Story
My sister Shari was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2023. I was actually supposed to follow up for a checkup six months after an appointment in early 2023, but life got busy, and I didn’t. After Shari’s diagnosis, I finally followed up - and in April 2024, I was diagnosed too.
Thankfully, my amazing team at Hackensack Meridian moved quickly and guided me every step of the way and with such genuine care. My hematologist/oncologist, Dr. Waintraub, my surgeon, Dr. McGreevy, and my radiation oncologist, Dr. Lewis, along with the entire radiation team, held me through every stage of my treatment, and I am forever grateful for their skill and compassion.
Early detection saved my life. For Black women, especially, making that appointment and staying on top of screenings truly matters. We deserve to be held, protected, and uplifted- may we be held in grace and health on this journey together.
My hope is that my story reminds someone to take that first step toward their own health. Moving forward with gratitude and resilience.
Please join my sister and me on Team Melanated Melons for the Breast Cancer Walk on October 5, 2025, at Six Flags Great Adventure. Your donation helps provide crucial support and early screening programs for our community.
