My story is my mother's story...
Walking for Paula
My mother, Paula Azzollini, was a woman of strength, warmth, and unwavering love. She faced her breast cancer diagnosis with courage, trusting the course of treatment prescribed. But during what should have been routine surgery, her mastectomy and reconstruction, a medical error took her from us far too soon.
Her loss was not just a personal tragedy—it was a preventable one. With the advancements in breast cancer research and treatment, we now know that such radical procedures may no longer be necessary. Safer, less invasive options exist. But for my mother, those options came too late.
In her memory, I walk. I walk for every woman who has faced the fear of breast cancer. I walk for those who are still fighting. Each step I take in Susan G. Komen’s MORE THAN PINK Walk is a step toward a future where no one has to endure unnecessary surgery or suffer from preventable medical mistakes.
This is more than a fundraiser—it's a mission. A mission to ensure that research continues, that awareness spreads, and that no one else has to lose a mother, a sister, a friend, to breast cancer.
