My Story
2010: I was introduced to walking in the SGK walk-a-thon when the walk was located around the Washington Monument.
Between 2014-2015 I decided to become a leader/Team Capton to help support and sponsor the SGK walk-a-thon cause to rid the disease of breast cancer.
Between 2017-2018 the walk moved to the Freedom Plaza and the name changed to SGK More than Pink with for colors called the four pillars orange for action, blue for community, green for care and purple for research. The colors identify the connection of the organizations visual mission to fighting breast cancer.
2020-2025: In 2020 I diagnosed with breast cancer. The lump was the size of a quarter, I was told. I had lumpectomy and was prescribed 20 doses of radiation, after I was prescribed hormonal/chemo meds to take for five years.
March 2025 I was informed I am cancer free by the oncologist, yeh.
I now know how a person feels who was diagnosed with breast cancer along with the side effects that go along with the condition and treatments.
Throughout the fifteen years, 2010-2025, I missed one year that I did not walk, not due to the diagnosis.
