My Story
- 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. 1 in 3 of those will be diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.
I hit both those statistics in one fall swoop. In June 2023, at the age of 44, I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Metastatic Breast Cancer, De Novo: meaning I was diagnosed Stage 4 at the start and my cancer was not previously discovered at an earlier stage. We discovered cancer had spread to much of my spine, chest, ribs, pelvis, hips, and legs. I immediately began chemotherapy. In April 2024, my scans revealed no active disease (woohoo) and I was able to take a break from treatment. However, in November 2024 my scans showed a new active spot. I again started back on chemotherapy. There is no cure for metastatic breast cancer, however ongoing research continues to provide new treatments and hope for greater life expectancy.
