I will again be joining the ONE Komen community and registered for the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk. I hope to help raise money to end breast cancer.
At 53 years old my mom Lisa Barraza noticed her right breast was itchy. While scratching it, she suddenly found some big lumps. This was strange because she was always on time getting her mammograms. She made an appointment and a biopsy showed she had stage 3 breast cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes.
My mom did chemo and had a lumpectomy taking 17 lymph nodes on her right side, then radiation treatment. It was a tough road but after everything she was in remission finally. Unfortunately, After a year the cancer had come back. It was in the same breast, so this time they performed a mastectomy and did another round of chemo she was doing really good!
In March of 2021 we got the news that the cancer had spread to her to many other places in her body including the liver. She started treatment again but this time it was so hard on her body. She decided to go on hospice and on February 9th 2022 at just 57 she peacefully left this earth.
My mom was a beautiful brave soul that never wanted to be defined by her cancer! She was proud to be a survivor and did this walk every year! My mom is my hero and loved by so many! I hope you will walk with us in memory of her beautiful smile!
