This year I walk for my mother-in-law Martina, who is also know as Bu Nas or Utien, who is a breast cancer survivor. We consider herself lucky because she didn't suffer as much as most cancer patients, as she only had to undergo surgery and didn't require chemotherapy or radiation. It's crucial to acknowledge the progress being made in cancer research, not only in finding a cure but also in improving treatments. The work being done by various institutions is alleviating the pain and suffering of cancer patients and giving them hope for a better future.
I have witnessed many of my friends and family members, including my mom, who passed away of cervical cancer in 2001. I have seen firsthand how devastating this disease can be for us. Together, let us work towards making more people lucky enough to never have to hear those dreadful words spoken.
