when I became the one in eight...
One in eight women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in their lives...and this year, I became one of them.
My cancer presented as an architectural distortion, which is not a palpable mass. They found one on my mammogram, and two more on my ultrasound, and all were lobular carcinoma. They would not have been found if I hadn't been getting regular screening mammograms. I had a bilateral mastectomy in July 2024. When we got the pathology back from that surgery, we found that my cancer had metastasized to nearby lymph nodes, so my road to recovery got longer. I will need cancer, radiation, and reconstruction, but I know that I will come through this okay.
After a rare infection, multiple surgeries, and multiple rounds of antibiotics, I will finally start my chemo on October 22...and I will head to the MORE THAN PINK walk "Straight Outta Chemo!". I am dedicated to Komen's mission of ending breast cancer forever, and I need your help. Please consider joining me in this fight and making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.
