As a dissertating PhD student at Baylor University, I believe it is important for scientists of all levels to be equally engaged in fundraising efforts as a matter of good faith. It is a privilege to do the work we conduct and should be more than a career, but a gift we give from both ends. Demonstrations of personal commitments across science professionals are critical to communicate a deeper passion for patients across campus and community, as much as the academy and clinic. It's my life's mission.
Because I have been fortunate enough to beat this disease myself, researching TNeg in molecular pharmacology and the development of novel imaging techniques allows me to turn around and reach out to those who deserve the same positive outcome. In parallel, participating in these events and raising money for Komen, I hope to be visible to survivors and patients in the community, knowing who is really behind the scenes to push medicine forward on their behalf, particularly those like me who have had positive firsthand outcomes.
It is my honor to aid in efforts to provide the resources and support that every breast cancer patient deserves, especially knowing that someone out there is rooting for them in an otherwise isolating disease. I hope you can be part of my journey and give as much as you feel comfortable, no worries about the amount. Many of Komen's corporate partners multiply gifts, so even a few dollars can add up quickly if donated in time for the late September event in Waco, TX. Additionally, if you are looking for a team to join in my efforts, please reach out!
Thank you for a couple of moments of your day to consider my cause!
With much love,
Swayze
