Cathy's Journey
Welcome to our Komen More Than Pink Walk team page for Team Mammo-Grammies. Our team Captain is Cathy Robins Ramos. Cathy is a two-time breast cancer survivor. While we have come a long way in preventative, research, and survivor rate, we still have a long way to go! I am honored to be a part of the Patient Advocacy Committee with Susan G. Komen this year. In February 2023, members of the Statewide Committee walked the halls of the Texas Capital lobbying for the Breast Cancer and Cervical Canter (BCCS) bill to approve $600 Million per year for the next 10 years to retain funding and the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). May 2024 the funding was approved by the Texas Legislature. June 10 -12 2024, representatives attended the 2024 Advocacy Summit in Washington D.C. for meetings with Congressional offices. The Advocacy priorities are Accelerating Research, Alleviating Patient Burden and Ensuring all patients have Equal Access to affordable, high-quality care. In 2024 an estimated 313,510 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 42,780 patients are estimated to die from breast cancer. Survival rates are up 92% from 1975 although we need lawmakers to work together to move forward to make advocacy goals possible.
In 2023 Team Mammo-Grammies raised more than $15,300 in donations making our team able to make an impact beyond years prior paying for Mammograms, Home Health Care Visits, Diagnostic Biopsies and Cobra Insurance Premiums. In 2024 our team wants to help more but we need your assistance in raising funds for Susan G Komen to be able to continue to be able to work.
Cathy was first diagnosed in 2004 followed by 6 biopsies, 5 years of Tamoxifen. Cathy was cancer free until April 1, 2016, when she received pathology results diagnosing an estrogen based invasive breast cancer. Working with oncology team, surgery, oncotype pathology, updated genetic testing with a Bard1 positive genetic disorder, treatment plans were established. July 20, 2016, Cathy rang the bell after radiation treatments completed with continued treatment taking Anastrozole. Texas Oncology continues to confirm that Cathy remains cancer free, and she is now an eight-year survivor & thriver after surgery February 2024. Cathy's mother, Janet Curry, is a 53-year survivor from a 1971 diagnosis celebrated her 91st birthday May 2024 and remains a shining example to our family and friends.
Team Mammo-Grammies is made up of our family. Cathy’s family continues to provide the support required to win the battle against breast cancer. Husband Al a true partner and love of life; children Stephanie, Garrett and Macee have been so supportive and are the lights of life for their mom; Garrett's wife, Cristina, and Stephanie's husband Tony along with grandchildren Reid, Juliana, Elizabeth, Isabella, Abigail ,and Jaxson keep smiles and love flowing. Through it all, Cathy could not have survived without her family and through God's continued grace and guidance, we stand together.
Cathy is the owner of Robins Oil & Gas Research. Friends and clients continue to be supportive, generous donors to Susan G. Komen, and continued to encourage and support Cathy. Thank you!
