Melanie & Lena's Story
My name is Melanie Malone and at 33 years old I was diagnosed with Stage 2, Triple Positive Breast cancer. My journey began in April of 2023, I was newly pregnant and felt a lump on my left breast. At the time I chalked it up to breast changes and thought nothing of it. After miscarrying a couple of months later, the lump remained. Being the daughter of a triple negative breast cancer survivor, I knew I needed to get checked.
By the time of my mammogram I was 5 weeks pregnant and they found a 1.1cm mass that was confirmed malignant. At 15 weeks pregnant and after my tumor had tripled in size, I had a single mastectomy. About a month later I started my 4 rounds of AC Chemo at 22 weeks pregnant. This continued until I gave birth to a healthy baby girl at 34 weeks. She spent a couple of weeks in the NICU and came home perfectly healthy. She is a true miracle.
After recovering from birth I started up my next chemo regimen. 12 weeks of Taxol including the start of 18 months of targeted therapy. I recently completed my last round of chemo and continue on my journey with a year of targeted therapy and 7 years of hormone therapy. I fight for my daughter and 3 year old son. I fight for my husband, family, and friends. But most of all, I fight for myself.
This year, I joined the Komen community and registered for the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk. I am dedicated to Komen's mission of ending breast cancer forever, and I need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.
Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. Funds raised help support breakthrough research and provide assistance to those facing breast cancer today who need our support. Whether it’s emotional support via Komen’s helpline, financial support through Komen’s financial assistance program, or navigation services to break down barriers to care, Komen will be there for them.
Ending breast cancer needs all of us, and your generosity can make a real difference. Together, let’s show breast cancer patients there’s a whole community standing by their side.
