My Story

This year, I joined the Komen community and registered for the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk. I am dedicated to Komen's mission of ending breast cancer forever, and I need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.
The following story is that of my cousin, Alecia ("Lisa") Robinson, a strong survivor of breast cancer. She inspires me, and I know her story will inspire you too.

HOOTERS' HOPE IS BACK!!

As one of the top fundraising teams of the 2023 Georgia More Than Pink Walk, Hooters' Hope is back to help fight for the lives of those forever changed by breast cancer.  Our small but mighty 2023 team raised $5,600.00, and this year armed with more team members and the same dedicated spirit, we are aiming to raise even more money.

I formed team Hooters' Hope because I wanted my family and friends to join me in directly helping those who find their lives upended by a breast cancer diagnosis. That was me in April of 2022, faced with a life paused and a breast cancer fight in front of me.  The weeks and months that followed were both physically and emotionally the hardest and most draining times of my life.  I'd have a double mastectomy, six rounds of chemotherapy, and one year of medication infusions. Greatly weakened by treatment and unable to work, the Susan G. Komen organization stepped in to help me with financial assistance. It is just one of the many ways Komen helps those battling breast cancer.

Hooters' Hope is also here again to help Komen raise money for breast cancer research.  Among other things, my breast cancer was Her2+, one of the more aggressive forms of breast cancer.  In the not so distant past, a Her2+ breast cancer diagnosis could be a death sentence, but research and the development of new medications has changed that narrative.  I am a survivor today because these medications exist.

Finally, each time I step out with my team to raise funds to help those who fight breast cancer, I hold in my heart two family members who walked this path before me.  My mother, Ann Robinson, was a warrior and survivor during her lifetime, and my aunt, Vivian Roberts, another warrior, valiantly fought breast cancer for three years.  I don't want anyone to lose someone they love to breast cancer like my family did.  I hold on to hope that a cure will be found, and until then, I will fight in every way that I can to move the journey toward a cure forward.

So my family and friends, I ask that if you feel so led, please join me and my Hooters' Hope teammates in supporting this fight by making a donation to our team.

Thank you for taking the time to read Lisa's story and helping us to make a difference!

With love and deep gratitude,

Stephanie
