My Story
My name is Tammy, and I am a dedicated ally in the fight against breast cancer. For the past eight years, I have supported this cause as a crew member with the Komen 3-Day, working with the sports medicine team to keep walkers moving. In addition, I have participated as a walker in events across San Diego, Boston, and Denver. Through these efforts, I have raised over $15,000 for breast cancer research and support.
As a Black woman, I am acutely aware that we are approximately 40% more likely to die from breast cancer compared to white women. This awareness drives my commitment to initiatives like Stand For H.E.R., a Health Equity Revolution. It is crucial to take a stand, make a commitment, and do the necessary work.
Although I have not personally been diagnosed, I have witnessed the profound impact of this disease on families and close friends. Early detection through annual mammograms is vital, and spreading awareness is essential. Did you know that Black women are often diagnosed at a younger age, with more aggressive types of cancer, and at later stages than white women?
This is why I walk and why I need your support. This year, I am committed to raising $2,000 for the Komen Georgia MORE THAN PINK Walk. Please join me in reaching this goal and making a meaningful impact. Your support can help change lives and advance the fight against breast cancer.
