Our Story

I've been participating in the Komen race for years. Last year was a special one... I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in the spring of 2023. It was caught early so I was "lucky". I had a lumpectomy and endured 12 rounds of chemo, 20 radiation treatments, and a year of Herceptin  infusions.  I wasn't sure if I was able to participate in the 2023 Komen race since I just finished my last chemo treatment in September and the race was in October. But I did it. I just did the 1 mile fun run, but damn it, I did it. I did it while still undergoing Herceptin infusion and radiation.

In the 2024 Komen race, I'm happy to be a 1-year survivor and I look forward to stand under that banner along with other badass survivors. I feel blessed everyday, this experienced has humbled me to appreciate every day of waking up to another day, something we all take for granted.

I ask each one of you to participate in anyway you can - either donating, volunteering or walking with me. I know I might not see the cure for cancer in my lifetime, but it's still worth fighting for, knowing my nieces and nephews might see it in their generation, or generations to come is worth the fight!
