This year was the year my life was affected by breast cancer. I've heard the stories and seen friends and family deal with breast cancer - I've seen the pink ribbons and heard stories of moms and sisters, aunts and grandmothers. But this year, it became real for me. My mom was diagnosed with invasive lobular carcinoma.

This type of breast cancer starts in the milk glands of the breast and can spread to other parts of the body. The very thing that my mom used to nourish her five children has turned on her.

There have been lots of tears and worry this year. She is in a good place and we are so lucky to have found wonderful doctors, amazing medicine and treatments that are helping. But we need to continue the research and support and be able to help the next mom that needs help. The uncertainty is so very hard.
